Director and Producer’s Statement:

This film is about a suicidal man who is given a second chance at life when a compassionate pawnshop owner offers him an unusual choice: a gun or a cookbook. In the process, he finds passion, romance, heartbreak, and a genuine sense of purpose. This film is a love letter to cooking and the people we meet along the way. But more importantly, this film is for helping those dealing with suicidal ideation. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10-34. Death by suicide has increased over the last 20 years, while more than half are committed using firearms. There are many reasons why people are suicidal, including depression, job loss, and social isolation. There is an ever-present stigma surrounding both mental illness and media depictions of suicide. We want to combat that. By providing an alternative story - in which someone heals and by depicting suicidality realistically - we hope to provide a counter to the current media messaging surrounding illness and suicide. This is a film for people who struggle. To give them hope, and a reason. Even if it’s a simple grilled cheese.
